For those of you who say that the iPad is not revolutionary, I challenge you to use it for a week. Put aside the notion that this device should replace your laptop/net book/smartphone and focus solely on the experience. What I've found in this experiment is a device that redefines how I want to consume media and technology.
I have no desire now to go back to my desktop or laptop computer to do email, Twitter, or news reading. What I want is an intensely personal and intimate experience. What I want is a device that I can hold close to me, in any setting I choose. A device that allows me to get comfortable and accommodates me positionally and remains functional. What I want are apps, not websites that cater to my specific consumption desires. Suddenly my laptop seems cold and impersonal.
Is the iPad a revolutionary device in specs? Absolutely not. What they've given us is a big iPod Touch. Did Apple know that this would create an experience unrivaled by anything in the tech world? Where Windows machines are cold, impartial, and full of cryptic error messages - the iPad is intensely personal. Thank you Apple, for reminding me that consuming media is not just about knowledge transfer, it's also about enjoying the journey. I'm looking forward to watching how this device will change not only the way we take information in, but will set the bar on ensuring the user experience is paramount.
